When Apple first began offering web-based previews, I was thrilled. Finally, I could click a link to a song preview without having iTunes jump in and take over! I’d just open the program if and when I decided to buy the song. Unfortunately, I soon discovered that the web preview STILL opens iTunes.

It’s really my own fault; I had sent an email to Steve Jobs asking if there was any way he could make iTunes links more annoying, and I clearly should have explained that I was being sarcastic.

But there’s good news! The Apple Blog has posted this handy guide to stop links from opening iTunes. There are detailed instructions for Firefox, Safari and Chrome (Although the Chrome solution also prevents you from easily opening it in iTunes when you want make the purchase).

LifeButBetter.com brings us a simple fix to prevent tangled headphones:

To stop earphones from tangling we simply need to tie the ear-buds and the jack together. We can do this by folding the wire in half to bring the back to the buds and then put a knot in the cable near to that end. Slip knots are good for this because they’re easy to undo but will stay in place long enough.

Yanko Design gives us the MU SPACE, a pillow & mat inside “A cross between the boombox on your shoulder and an MP3 player”. I think I’d rather carry my iPod and a pillow, but maybe I’d change my mind if I got to try it out… Feel like sending out a free sample, Yanko?

Lady-Gaga

Massachusetts electro pop group Passion Pit have reworked Lady Gaga’s “Telephone.” The  band was asked to create the official remix for the latest single off her album The Fame Monster. The song, featuring Beyonce, gets treated to house-y hi hats, synths galore, and a fairly annoying chipmunk voice.

Prince0125
Prince recently penned a song for his purple comrades, the Minnesota Vikings. The song, “Purple and Gold” was written by Prince after viewing the Viking’s 34-3 victory over the Dallas Cowboys. Prince, who was in attendance at the game was inspired to write a fight song for the team.

“I saw the future,” said The Purple One, who went home that night and wrote the song.  Even though the team was “4ever strong as the wind that blows the Vikings’ horn,” Minnesota lost to the New Orleans Saints in a 31-28 overtime win yesterday.

the veil of the sky draws open
the roar of the chariots touch down
we r the ones who have now come again
and walk upon water like solid ground
as we approach the throne we won’t bow down
this time we won’t b denied

raise every voice and let it b known
in the name of the purple and gold

we come in the name of the purple and gold
all of the odds r in r favor
no prediction 2 bold
we r the truth if the truth can b told
long reign the purple and gold

the eyes say ready 4 battle
no need 4 sword in hand
we r all amped up like a rock n roll band
ready 2 celebrate every score
ready 2 fight the elegant war
ready 2 hear the crowd roar

that’s what we came 4
and so much more
in the name of the purple and gold

r spirits may b tired
r bodies may b worn
but since this day is r destiny
r history – that’s y we must b
4ever strong as the wind that blows the Vikings’ horn
in the name of the purple and gold

paint-anti_wi-fi[2]

If horrible internet signal, slow loading speed, and firewalls weren’t enough to slow down your process of listening to music on the web, a new paint job might destroy your chances as well. A special kind of paint that blocks out wireless signals has been developed at the University of Tokyo. The paint contains an aluminum- iron oxide that resonates at the same frequency as wi-fi, absorbing the airborne data and blocking it. The makers of the paint developed it as a cheap way of preventing access to data from unauthorized users.

musicfestivalGoing to any music festivals this summer? Megan Romer wrote an article that lists great ways to make the most out of your music festival experience. Some of the include:

Getting Your Tickets Early- Most festivals have tickets for considerably cheaper if you plan ahead and buy early. This can save you more money to be spent elsewhere: Airplane tickets, hotel rooms, food, “concert enhancers” etc.

Don’t Bring Expensive Stuff- Don’t bring along expensive jewelry, electronics, or anything else you wouldn’t want to misplace or have stolen.

Go Easy On The Alcohol- We aren’t saying not to drink, we are all about you having fun, but just be careful on how much you drink. You don’t want to sleep in our be passed out for your favorite band’s set. Also, chances are its going to be hot out and drinking leads to dehydration.

Manage Your Money- If you are going to a multiple-day festival, it probably isn’t wise to spend all of your money on food, albums, and shirts on the first day. Manage your money so that you are able to pick up some merch from a band you really like and still have enough cash left over to make it home.
