CMJ Top 10 – Week of Feb 1 2010

Here are this week’s top 10 albums from College Music Journal’s Top 200 chart:

10. Owen Pallett- Heartland

Owen Pallet makes his chart debut at the number 10 spot. Formerly known as Final Fantasy, Pallet has dropped the video game name and has released an album of beautiful orchestrated pop.

9. Flaming Lips- Embryonic

The Flaming Lips’ freak-rock double album drop down to the number 9 spot this week, previously holding down the number 6 spot.

8. Real Estate- Real Estate

Real Estate’s wonderful self titled debut drops down this week from the number 5 spot to number 8.

7. Them Crooked Vultures- Them Crooked Vultures

Rock supergroup Them Crooked Vultures rises the charts from the number 9 spot to number 7 this week.

6. Blakroc- BlakRoc

The Black Key’s hip hop project, Blakroc has climbed the charts to the number 6 spot, previously holding down a spot at number 8. With collaborations with Ludacris, Jim Jones, Mos Def, GZA, Q-Tip, and the late Ol’ Dirty Bastard, this is an album to check out.

5. Tegan and Sara- Sainthood

Tegan and Sara’s Sainthood drops down two spots to the number 5 position this week.

4. Devendra Banhart- What Will Be

Devendra Banhart’s latest album of folk gems maintains its spot at number 4.

3. Tom Waits- Glitter and Doom Live

Wait’s live album from his 2008 tour of the same name drops down one spot to number 3.

2. Vampire Weekend- Contra

Vampire Weekend holds the number 2 spot this week. Their second album Contra debuted at number one on the Billboard charts, making it the 12th independently distributed title to ever do so.

1. Animal Collective- Fall Be Kind

Animal Collective’s latest EP of experimental pop finds itself at the number one position this week., holding down its reign at the top from last week.
