Tribute to Nick Drake

NickDrake
Nick Drake was easily one of the most influential english songwriters of the last century, but he was relatively unknown throughout his life. Although the shy, troubled artist has been named as an influence by artists such as Kate Bush, Paul Weller, The Black Crowes, and Elliott Smith, it was only after his song Pink Moon was featured in a Volkswagen commercial in 2000 that he found mainstream success – unfortunately, it was 26 years after his death.

His producer/manager, Joe Boyd, is now presenting Way to Blue: The Songs of Nick Drake, a small tribute tour in his honor at several venues in the U.K. The show brings together contemporary singers with a band led by Kate St John, and including bassist Danny Thompson, who played on many of Drake’s recordings. Singers interpreting Nick’s songs on Way to Blue include Vashti Bunyan, Green Gartside, Lisa Hannigan, Robyn Hitchcock, Scott Matthews, Teddy Thompson and Krystle Warren.

Way To Blue is being presented on tour at the following venues:

Wednesday 20th January 2010 – Celtic Connections, Glasgow Royal Concert Hall, Glasgow UK

Thursday 21st January 2010 – Brighton Dome, Brighton UK

Friday 22nd January 2010 – Barbican Hall, Barbican Centre, Silk Street, London UK

Saturday 23rd January 2010 – Warwick Arts Centre, Coventry UK
