R.I.P. Jerry Fuchs

Jerry Fuchs, drummer extrodanaire for such bands as !!!, The Juan Maclean, Maserati, and Turing Machine passed away on Saturday night after falling down an elevator shaft in Brooklyn. According to the New York Post, Fuchs was at Williamsburg fundraiser where he and friend got stuck in an elevator four feet from the fifth floor. The two opened the doors and attemped to jump across. The friend made it while Jerry’s clothing got caught on the elevator when he jumped, pulling him back to the space under it.

Fuch’s roommate and Holy Ghost member, Alex Frankel, wrote about the tragedy in his band’s blog:

“Jerry Fuchs, our friend and our drum hero, passed away. Jerry accidentally fell from a freight elevator in Williamsburg Brooklyn and was not able to survive the intense trauma caused by the fall. Nick and I entered the building about the time the fall occurred. We found him in the elevator shaft. We held him and talked to him and went with him to Bellevue Hospital. Heartbreakingly, the doctors were unable to resuscitate him. He was pronounced dead at 3:33 am.”

From a post from Juan Maclean on his band’s website:

“Jerry was one of my best and most loyal friends. He was hands-down the best drummer I have ever played with or seen for that matter. Jerry was with me from the start of The Juan MacLean, and we had countless adventures together all over the world. He was utterly sincere and fiercely loyal.”

From Maserati’s site:

“We are humbled to have been able to create music with you for all these years, Jerry. You will be missed more than words can express. We love you, bro.”
