By now, you must have heard about Kanye West’s apparently drunken spotlight stealing antics at MTV’s VMAs. In case you haven’t, here are the highlights:
- 19 year old Taylor Swift wins the first VMA of the night, for Best Female Video
- Kanye bumrushes the stage, snatching the microphone out of Swift’s hand
- Kanye declares that Beyonce Knowles had one of the best videos of the year
- Cut to a shocked and embarrassed Beyonce
- MTV kicks Kanye out of the event
- Beyonce later wins Best Video, and graciously calls up Taylor Swift to make an uninterrupted acceptance speech.
Speaking to the press room afterward, Swift said, “I was standing on stage because I was really excited because I had just won the award, and then I was really excited because Kanye West was on stage. And then I wasn’t so excited anymore after that.”
About Kanye, she only had this to say: “I don’t know him, and I’ve never met him, so I don’t want to start anything because I had a great night tonight,” she answered when probed by reporters.
This morning on The View, she told the co-hosts the thoughts that ran through her head while onstage: “Wow, I can’t believe I won! This is awesome! Don’t trip and fall! I’m going to get to thank the fans; this is so cool …. Oh… Kanye West is here. Cool haircut! What are you doing?” And then, “Ouch. I guess I’m not going to get to thank the fans.”
Although West appeared on the first episode of The Jay Leno Show and made a very moving public apology (at one point even appearing to be holding back tears), Swift told The View that she has not heard from him personally.
