Are you a solo artist or a member of a band that uses Twitter? Sound Citizen posted an article listing 10 ways to effectively use your Twitter account for promoting your music. Some of the steps include:

1. Tweet A Song- People following you on Twitter will see your updates. If you tweet a link to a song, others might retweet the post to their followers, thereby getting your song out to others that weren’t following you. If they like what they hear, they might just follow your account.

2. Follow Fans Right Back- Follow your fans on Twitter. It looks bad if you have thousands of fans following you and your account only following three. You will look like you actually care about your fans and your fans can even brag to their friends that you are following them.

3. Update About Recent Performances- Fans want to know about a show you just did. It lets you stay in touch and tell everyone how much you loved the crowd and city.

4. Give Away Some Tickets- A great way to get followers is to give away a pair of tickets. Announce that you are going to give free tickets away soon. You’ll see that you gained some new followers. Then follow through by selecting a random follower or  to receive free tickets to an upcoming show.

5. Be Real- Treat your followers like you would treat a friend. Twitter lets you share your experiences with many people at once. It’s easy to do and can make a big difference in how fans connect with you.
